Y12 Geography Residential /2026/04/17/y12-geography-residential/ Fri, 17 Apr 2026 07:42:16 +0000 /?p=18791

On 15th–16th April 2026, Year 12 Geography students completed days 2 and 3 of their fieldwork programme through a residential visit to the Cranedale Centre in North Yorkshire. This residential formed an important part of the Wickersley Partnership Trust Enrichment Promise, providing students with valuable learning experiences beyond the classroom.

The first day was spent in Scarborough, where students applied a range of fieldwork techniques to investigate how both historical and contemporary connections have shaped the lived experience of the town. This provided excellent opportunities to develop data collection skills and deepen their understanding of human geography in a real-world setting.

On Thursday 16th April, students visited Flamborough Head, where they explored how physical processes have shaped the coastal landscape. They then applied these observations to beach-based investigations, linking their fieldwork directly to their coursework requirements. The day was made even more memorable by a special appearance from a resident seal.

These experiences will equip students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to complete a successful Non-Examined Assessment.

Ski Trip 2026 /2026/04/13/ski-trip-2026/ Mon, 13 Apr 2026 12:35:11 +0000 /?p=18765

During the first week of the Easter holidays, 80 pupils took part in an unforgettable ski trip to Bormio, set in the stunning Italian Alps. From the very first day on the slopes, pupils showed great enthusiasm and determination. With excellent snow conditions and expert instruction, they skied daily, building confidence and improving their technique. Whether beginners or experienced skiers, all students made impressive progress, with many exceeding their own expectations.

The experience extended beyond the slopes, with a range of evening activities that kept spirits high and created lasting memories. As part of Wickersley Partnership Trust’s Enrichment Promise, trips like this provide valuable opportunities for pupils to develop confidence and independence beyond the classroom. Highlights included a quiz night, pizza night, and the ever-popular quest night, where pupils worked together to complete fun challenges. These activities helped to strengthen friendships and build a strong sense of teamwork.

Staff were especially proud of how pupils conducted themselves throughout the trip. Their behaviour was exemplary, and they represented the school with maturity and respect at all times. Well done!

Wickersley Movement Festival /2026/04/13/wickersley-movement-festival/ Mon, 13 Apr 2026 10:05:44 +0000 /?p=18705

This year’s Annual Movement Festival was our biggest and most energetic yet, with an incredible 235 dancers taking to the stage – a record-breaking turnout that raised the bar for future performances.

The event was a fantastic celebration of talent and creativity. The audience was treated to a wide variety of performances, including cheerleading routines, elegant gymnastics displays, and incredible vocal pieces. Dance styles ranged from ballet to hip hop, with themed routines inspired by Grease and Moulin Rouge adding a theatrical touch that was a real crowd favourite.

Feedback from the audience was overwhelmingly positive, with many describing it as “the best show so far”, reflecting the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. A special mention goes to the staff performers, whose tribute to a well-known pop icon brought plenty of humour and entertainment to the stage.

Above all, well done to the Year 7-13 students, who performed night after night and still returned to school the following day with commitment and resilience.

The festival was a fantastic success, showcasing not only exceptional talent but also a strong sense of community. We are already looking forward to next year’s performances!

Belgium Trip 2026 /2026/04/13/belgium-trip-2026/ Mon, 13 Apr 2026 07:25:47 +0000 /?p=18692

On 27th–30th March, 40 students from Years 8 and 9 visited the First World War battlefields in Belgium and France. The group stayed in Ypres and travelled to the Somme, visiting significant sites including Lochnagar Crater, Thiepval, Newfoundland Memorial Park, and Vimy Ridge, where they learned about the events of the 1916 battles. This trip is a fantastic example of the Wickersley Partnership Trust Enrichment Promise, bringing learning to life well beyond the classroom.

Students also explored the Ypres Salient, visiting both British and German war cemeteries and memorials to the missing, including the largest British and Commonwealth war cemetery at Tyne Cot. Throughout the trip, they deepened their understanding of trench warfare and heard powerful stories about the soldiers who served.

The visit concluded at the Menin Gate for the Last Post ceremony, where students attended the Sunday night commemorations. Three students – Ann, Arthur, and James – had the honour of laying a wreath on behalf of the school.

Well done to everyone who attended, you represented WSSC brilliantly!

Charity Easter Collection /2026/04/01/charity-easter-collection/ Wed, 01 Apr 2026 11:12:04 +0000 /?p=18673

Before half term, Wickersley students Olivia and Poppy showed incredible kindness by collecting Easter eggs and crafts for Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

With support from Wickersley School, they also reached out to the local community, including the Wickersley 10K, local libraries, cafés, and Maltby Rugby Club. In total, they collected around 600 Easter eggs for Sheffield Children’s Hospital and a wonderful selection of crafts for Bluebell Wood.

Olivia was inspired by her baby sister, who spent time in Sheffield Children’s Hospital in 2015 before sadly passing away at Bluebell Wood. She understands how much receiving a gift can mean to a child. Well done to Olivia and Poppy for their compassion, determination, and amazing efforts to support others.
